Meet Kat. She is a San Diego mom of 2 girls, 2.5 and 4 months, a wife, a business owner, and works full time at her preschool. She is busy! For the next 9 months, we will check in with her bimonthly as she shares her successes, trials, tribulations and motivation with all you San Diego Moms fitness moms.
Today is 6 weeks since she started her post baby fitness regime. Here what Kat has to say!
Tashia: What has been your biggest challenge in adding a fitness routine to your busy life?
Kat: Finding the time to work out and to eat healthy! It’s way too easy to grab whatever to eat sometimes. Also knowing in my mind that it’s OK to take the time to work out. It’s really important to keep myself happy so that I can be the best Mommy I can be!
Tashia: What have you learned?
Kat: That I really am going to have to squeeze in my work outs whenever I have the time, even if it is only 10 minutes! When I started doing push-ups on my kitchen counter during breakfast, my preschoolers looked at me like I was crazy. Now they just think it is part of the day!
Tashia: What's the biggest change you have seen in yourself?
Kat: My ability to find the time to squeeze it (my workouts) in my day, and my energy level is up! Oh, and after today- 1 1/2 inches off my waist and down 6 lbs! Woo HOO!!
Tashia: What advice would you give other moms?
Kat: It’s really hard finding the balance and figuring out when to work out, but make it a priority because you need to take care of yourself first! Plus, who doesn’t need the energy you'll get from it?
Tashia: What keeps you motivated?
Kat: Being healthy for my girls and my upcoming 10 year high school reunion! I don't want my girls to see my obsessing over my weight, but I do want them to see me eating healthy, working out and living a healthy balanced life.
Tashia: What is your philosophy on food and diet?
Kat: My philosophy is kind of everywhere. I believe in everything in moderation. I also try to eat a lot and a variety of fruit and veggies. My husband grows a great organic garden so that makes eating veggies a lot easier. It’s amazing how much better tomatoes are fresh from the garden!
Tashia: I'm also doing weight watchers right now. I need to work on my portion sizes, and weight watchers holds me accountable. It also keeps me from nibbling off of my daughters’ plates, finishing whatever she hadn't. Just keeping track of everything that goes in my mouth, and realizing that sometimes I'm eating just to eat....
Kat: I just finished "Animal Vegetable Miracle" and that inspired me to eat locally and organically as often as possible. We're so lucky to live in Southern California where we get great produce all year long!
We will check in with Kat 2x a month for 9 months on her fitness journey!
